Exploring Roles in the ECE Community

There were a few state and local early childhood organizations or communities of practice that I researched because of how they appealed to me. Since I have a passion for the well-being and education of young children, any cause that encourages and assists this sparks my high interest.

Early Childhood Ohio is an organization that promotes school readiness in the children of Ohio. They have a passion to help children achieve to their potential. This organization is so big that it is interconnected with other organizations, such as the Ohio Department of Education or the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The Ohio Department of Education handles state standards and other educational matters. Ohio Department of Job and Family Services deals with families and services offered to them to assist them in living.  In order to fulfill the roles here, I would have to have experiences with children, connections with different resources, and supports for children and their families.

  1. Your use of the Ohio Department of Education seems like a useful and supportive resource for many different areas of early childhood education as they oversee quality standards, program funding, professional development and qualifications, and school/family services among many other things. I also listed the PA Department of Education as a state/national/federal organization working toward ensuring and improving the quality of educational programs in Pennsylvania. I'm not sure what you're challenge topic is targeting, but I do feel as if an organization focused on family services and bettering the resources that families have access to provides someone researching in the field with a perspective of information that shows the effects of educational decisions on the family life. After reading through your blog posting this week I would like to take time to see if our state has any other organizations that focus on family support.
    Thanks for sharing - Caitlin

  2. Hi Arica,
It is amazing how many resources we can find once we start looking. We don't always know where to start and it can be a bit challenging but it is important that we know so that we can share important resources with families and colleagues. The agencies you found in your area look like they are a good fit for you if you ever wanted to seek a job at the national or federal level.

    1. There are indeed so many resources that it can be overwhelming at times. Some sites may not be credible, but thanks to our training at Walden, I can pretty much tell whicha are good cites and which aren't.
